What's new

Windows 12 - Microsoft starts work from March

No, it's not a typo. According to our information, Microsoft will start preparing for Windows 12 in March. In the run-up, they had already been looking for employees who would then provide additional support to the team. SwiftOnSecurity also confirms this information.

That doesn't mean that we'll see a new Windows 12 tomorrow. This can still drag on, since you start (almost) from scratch. One can assume that the Windows 10 substructure will then be completely abandoned. Windows 11 still has this substructure.

That means in plain English: What you started with Windows 10 X, to do everything new, is then really implemented in Windows 12. The latest changes in the Insider already show where the path is going. Leave old " camels " aside and only implement current things.

PS: The information from SwiftOnSecurity that two TPM modules are then required is of course a joke. But if you start now, also for the Pro, you need an internet connection and later also an MS account, you can already imagine in which direction things are going.

The core elements, some of which Microsoft has already launched with Windows 11 or will launch with the fall 2022 update (“22H2”), include:
  • Mandatory for Microsoft account in Home and Pro
  • An even stronger focus on TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot
  • Integration of the security chip “ Microsoft Pluton ”
  • Completely new substructure without the legacy
  • Take up approaches from Windows 10X

Just in my area alone, there are a lot of rural areas that don't have cable or any access to highspeed internet.
Hi there
That's now but in the not to distant future a lot of high speed Internet can be delivered cheaply by satellite avoiding need for cabling etc in rural and remote areas.

@jbcarreon123

Ms stock like the NASDAQ has been dropping recently -- problems have been world economy generally, domestic economies also so stock indicies are a bit of a "non indicator" as to the viability of these companies.

Companies like Ms are awash with cash though currently so won't be "going out of business" any time soon -- and actually it's a good time for them to use some of this cash for development of future / new products. Of course shoving money into development reduces the "profitability" in the short term so for "Day traders" a lot will sell bringing stock price down.

Of course the current situation in Ukraine doesn't help either as far as stock prices are concerned -- apart from other considerations - political, miltary, social, etc etc

Options trading is actually quite good on MSFT stock at the moment. (Use the weeklys -- no that's not a typo -- they are called that on the CBOE -- Chicago Board of Exchange where the options trading is managed from). You can also trade the well known "VIX" index (Volatility Index) featured in the recent TV series "The Fear Index" and the book by robert Harris of the same name. !!

But will it, if it needs the pluton architecture?
No, but then I doubt anyone will. Run a search and try to find a desktop CPU with the Pluton architecture. I could be wrong, but there are few out there (if any at this point).

In my area there is no FTP planned - indefinitely! (Rural). Not on "the plan" for the next five years at least. Max we can get is 8mbs - which at least is steady. Mobile broadband is slightly better at 16mps but unreliable with big fluctuations. We could get 100mps if we take out a business leaseline at a cost of £500 a month! Progress is going faster than the planned infrastructure. We'll probably get 5G before faster broadband! Satellite is actually slower here.

To get people to buy new computers? I think that was partly the idea behind Windows 11 - needing specific hardware - but people found a workaround :). But genuinely also possibly for greater security - which is good if that's the case. They probably reckon by the time Windows 10 is due to cease, most people will need a new laptop by then (not thinking that desktops go on for many many years).

I dont actually but into that part of "The Conspiracy theory". Apart fron the Surface ranfge of PC's Ms isn't in the PC building business and doesn't make money out of that side of the hardware.

Where Ms will increasingly make money is from Consultancy and otherServices, Cloud applications, A.I and robotics, XBOX type of games and more subscription services.

So many people can get legally free Windows 10 and Windows 11 that one can easily see "The direction of travel".

With increasing performance of Virtual Mchines it's possible to "Emulate" required hardware for example the TPM or even the Virtual CPU type.

You might want to reevaluate that observation..., MS makes a truckload of cash having manufacturers put Windows on their OEM's.

I'm not so sure about that -- I remember even back as far as W7 you could get an OEM copy if you just bought something simple like a Mouse -- the OEM version was only around 5USD compared with around 100 USD for the retail so not really sure of the validity of your argument.

Of course zillions of 5 USD's are a LOT of dollars !!!. However I'm sure it's a "Two way street" as Ms will want to test the OS on new hardware so cost of OEM might be virtually nothing for the OEM's these days.

The loophole though of an individual getting an OEM copy / license of windows for just buying a cheap peripheral probably has long disappeared though.

I bought a new laptop so I could run 11 as the one I had couldn't because of the CPU. That was OK though as I wanted to keep 10 going and that particular machine's internal battery had given up so it had to be connected to the electricity supply permanently.

I stated elsewhere that I'd probably be near to 90, if I get that far, so I'm not sure I'd want to be bothered with learning another OS, but then again time will tell. :D

I think an OS wouldn't change too much progressively to be able to adapt at 80 :) . Both my parents were avid silver surfers in their 80s. My Mother happily went from 7 to 10. My Father was reluctant to give up 7 and in his late 80s didn't like 10 - so he switched to an imac - which he regretted as it was far too big a change in Os and he never did get the hang of it. He liked the computer but it wasn't as intuitive as Windows. I had set 10 up for him to look like 7 but he liked the imac with it's big screen and thought it would be like an ipad. I really don't like Mac OS - never did. Most of windows will stay familiar I think. But they do need to think about peoples eyesight when using tiny greyed out icons on the right click menu!

I am almost positive I won't be going on to windows 12., but really, I guess it will depend on how long Windows 11 will be supported, hence the "almost". If the projected date for Windows 12 is actually 2030 I will be 76 if I last that long and may no longer care about computers. I do not work on them anymore and really only keep them around to keep more in touch with family members who are still alive. I do play a few lightweight games as my hands will allow. By then it will most likely be a high price to pay for a computer and the internet that supports an always on computer. Probably much too rich for me.

I have to admit to getting excited about new operating systems and wanting try them out - as long as there is still something familiar to fall back on.

What I can't imagine is what the world will be like in 15 or 20 years time! Will we still have computers?! People thought laptops would die out when ipads came along and they didn't. Somehow I think we will always need keyboards.

Another thought, I don't think 12 is being made to get people to buy new computers. I think it is all in the name of security and how easy it is to hack Windows; however, I believe hackers will always find a way.

This is something I don't have much knowledge about. Isn't the security as much in the coding as the hardware?

Both the hardware and the software. I think the pluton chip is an effort to stop stuff like spectre and meltdown, (remember them), but the thing about coding is it is people that make it and people that break it.
