@OldMike65 If it is as claimed then most machines won't run it as they won't have the pluton chip, this will be a lot harder to fool as it is in the processor. As Win 12 at the moment is just hype and speculation
Well I might be wrong about not needing the Pluton Chip , as I've been doing more research and it does look like The security chip Microsoft Pluton will be a requirement in order to install Win12 .....Looks like a lot of folks won't be installing Win12 , unless they upgrade there motherboard and cpu and in some cases there memory too. I didn't think MS would make it a requirement ....WoW

I look for Windows 12 to be a totally separate OS from Windows 11. By that I mean that there will be no upgrade path to go from Windows 11 to Windows 12. To get Windows 12 we will have to either buy a computer with Windows 12 already installed or have a computer that already has the Pluton chip and buy the OS. I do think that Windows 11 will be able to run on new computers with the Pluton chip but Windows 12 will not be able to run on older computers that don't have the Pluton chip. This is just what I've been thinking and I could be totally wrong. Time will tell.

I still think that Windows 12 will be a free upgrade IF your PC meets all the requirements ....but its a long ways off from being released at this present time.

Whether or not Windows Twelve ever becomes a reality, I think its going to be an essential for Microsoft that large scale testing is possible and that means having it able to run on older systems by enthusiasts that frequent such forums as these.

Win12 will not be backwards compatible to older pc's that don't have the Microsoft Pluton chip (CPU) installed. Unless MS changes there mind in the future. :-)

I custom build all my computers, and right now I don't even think we have a motherboard built to handle the Microsoft Pluton chip yet ....
I only like using the Asus Apex motherboards myself. So ...for me I don't think I would build my next new rig till the end of this year most likely.

As always with a new forum, it's good to get some threads populated and the search engines indexing, etc. Generally it's a way to find bugs, but since 11F is well sorted, 12F will be less issues

Well it is good to see Microsoft is keeping up with its tradition.

Treating everyone like mushrooms, keeping them in the dark and feeding them on ????.

Whatever the outcome, it will be good following all the tit bits of information (fact or otherwise) that trickles out to the masses. One way of keeping all the so called tech writers employed.

Full marks to the Staff for getting in early for us all to have a place to gather to express, decipher or just ponder what may happen down the track.
Just got to sort out the true bits and the joke bits, but as you said great on the staff

My only concern is we don't spend too much time on here posting and neglect the other forum as after all we are still on win 11

I still think that Windows 12 will be a free upgrade IF your PC meets all the requirements ....but its a long ways off from being released at this present time.
MS has been giving free upgrades since I think Windows 8. Then they came out with Windows 11. Wanting to make Windows 11 the most secure OS possible they decided on what systems would meet the requirements and be able to upgrade. Then they got bombarded with complaints from user that had system that don't meet the minimum requirements. The upgrades were free so why can't MS choose what systems get the free upgrades and what systems don't. Windows 10 has a few more years of support so they are giving us a grace period to upgrade our computers to ones that do meet the Windows 11 requirements. I will be totally surprised if MS allows us to upgrade to Windows 12 for free. If they don't I think it's easy understand why.
