If it takes an automobile about three years or more to go from a sketch on paper to the assembly line. How long do you think it should take an OS to be ready for release. MS needs to start years ahead of the EOL for whatever is the present OS so that it is at least stable enough fort them to even consider it release worthy.

Well it's a nice advertisement for the publications staff writers, unfortunately it's all just baseless nonsense,

I would personally prefer an operating system that is and does "what it says on the Tin", a system that allows me to use what applications I need or want to use, and gives these access to the hardware

I'm ok with a set of generic Basic hardware drivers, and OS control functionality I can always go to the manufacturer for full drivers for any hardware that needs better control, for what I do

I do not require any built in applications, and definitely "no apps" I do not write a blog or listen to podcasts (and when I do they are broadcast via my third party browser) so I don't need space wasted on my systems with crap apps I'll never use If I need a application to perform a task, I will choose one that meets my needs, not some generic "app" that's thrown in to the OS to bulk it out and advertise the "full" version of an app that is a little less basic

No interest in any of that speculative stuff or a rumoured Win12 until something is said by a verifiable Microsoft source and not via fake leaks from nameless people or imaginative click bait sites.
Even if they start work on Win12, there is no guarantee it will ever get released, MS does have a habit of scrapping new operating systems.

There will I think be a replacement for Windows 11- what the "name" will be is an entirely different question.

I would expect Microsoft to be putting together the development team for Win 11's replacement soon if not already, which would tie in with the leaked information that started this site amongst other things, ( we like to start building our membership early in the release cycle, and a lot of them are regulars that have been with several or all of our sites for a long time)

As Windows 10 is due to go out of support in late 2024 and Windows 11 will be Five years from release around a year later this would all fit into Microsoft's recent release cycle ... We will see what happens but whatever happens we want to be around as always to provide a place for self help for users

Slightly Off topic but a little bit of History many people including those in the UK might be unaware of.

My grandad had the experience in Iceland during WWII when the country was "Invaded" in 1940 by the UK army as a precaution against the Nazi's using the strategic part of the North Atlantic as a safe staging point for their U-boats to attack and sink vital supplies on ships coming from the USA and Canada and also prevent allied shipping and planes from re-supplying and refuelling etc.

In 1940 Iceland was still a Danish colony -- even though Denmark was occupied by the Germans. The Brits were replaced in 1941 by the USA - the occupation by either set of forces was not resisted and benefits were had all round -- Iceland was quite poor at that time -- My grandad used to have to use freezing outdoor toilets in -5 deg C or colder in the winter and fresh vegitables were a rarity since supplies from occupied Europe were obviously not a priority in the middle of a hideous war.

After Iceland got independence from Denmark after the war - it's been a strong NATO member ever since even though it's military contribution is about Zero -- how big can a military be with only 300,000 inhabitants --smaller than most london Boroughs !!.

Ist one magnificent waterfall -- see the size of the "Human" atthe bottom to get an appreciation of the scale of the thing.

As for Energy - we've abundant spare capacity of Gethermal and Hydro -- I'm amazed UK / Norway hasn't thought about a 1600 KM undersea cable -- can't be that difficult these days -- could supply endless renewable energy - no need for Russian Gas etc !!!!

The uk does not use a lot of gas from other than the British supplies - Europe, (mainly Germany, I believe), are the main sufferers with recent issues around sanctions, although the way the oil system works means that prices everywhere increase when one supply reduces.

The UK is in the process of switching to renewables Wind, Solar, and Nuclear, (not too keen on the last one)

Unfortunately for me the sprouting of Wind Turbines everywhere means I have to work harder to remove them from landscape images these days

You've got decent tidal flows = R. Severn. R Humber, The Wash etc -- 100% predictable for 1000's of years and infinitely re-newable. Also 100% "Putin Proof". Wind farms can be worse than useless when wind not blowing or peversly when there's too much !!!!. Smaller localised ones are better and don't damage agricultural land which is needed for growing crops or feeding farm animals.

You are also running a 720KM line to tap into Norway's hydro electric system-- cheaper energy by far would be a 1200 KM line from shetlands to Iceland -- more than enough cheap energy there to buy cheaply. UK could also establish Hydrogen producing factories in Iceland using cheap electricity and pristinely clean water. Hydrogen is the only sensible green power source for large vehicles and cheap heating.

Materials science for the pipelines has improved exponentially in the last few years as well as the mechanics of producing Hydrogen. No need ever again for Russian or Saudi Gas or Oil -- Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the entire Universe so even the Chinese could't create a stranglehold on supply !!!

Anyway lets hope W1indows 12 will be powered by green sustainable energy !!

The issue with bringing power to where it's needed, you would have to get it into the National Grid and that would mean a lot of overland, or probably Underground, construction to take the amount of power involved.

I worked with a guy that used to work at Porton Down and he did say that they had a viable Hydrogen fuel Cell in the sixties, but then North Sea Gas & Oil was discovered so that was seen as a safer option, now that the original fossil fuel supplies are winding down - another ten years or so, although there is probably a lot of untapped capacity out there. other options like hydrogen may be more appealing
